Montenegro: the paradise of the Adriatic

There is winter outside the window and your soul memories of a warm summer. It’s time to plan your summer vacation. We recommend you this year to go to a country of amazing beauty with high mountains, cozy bays and turquoise sea water – Montenegro.

The most popular resort in Montenegro is the city of Budva. Here you can find yourself in the 18th and 21st century at the same time. In the heart of the city, right by the Adriatic Sea, is the Old Town, built on the principle of a fortress: with narrow streets, paving stones, a bell tower and a high defensive wall.

Today, in the buildings of the Old Town there are souvenir shops, cafes and cozy restaurants, but a couple of centuries ago native Montenegrins lived in these cute houses with white shutters.

But it is worth going beyond the stone wall of the Old Town, and you find yourself in an ultramodern European city with luxurious hotels, villas, many restaurants and discotheques. Palm trees, bright flower beds and blooming trees are everywhere. And what air is here … just extraordinary … You feel it as soon as you get out of the plane at the airport of Tivat, which is a 20-minute drive from Budva.

As a rule, tourists stay at one of the many villas in Budva. You can book a room in advance on booking.com. Last summer, my sister and I chose a villa a 10-minute walk from the city center and 15 minutes from the beach.

By the way, about the beaches. In Budva there are several main free beaches: the long central city beach – Slavyansky, which is on the left side of the Old Town (if you face the sea) and two Mogren beaches located in a small bay on the right side. We chose the distant beach Mogren-2 in a cozy bay surrounded by mountains. Here you can sunbathe on your own towel or rent a sunbed with an umbrella at the rental point. Here you can have a bite to eat in a cafe, buy ice cream or beach toys for children. The beach here is sandy and pebble, so it is worth taking special shoes so as not to burn or damage your legs.

But when you enter the Adriatic Sea, it doesn’t matter what beach is here, because the water here is crystal clear, turquoise and refreshing. By the way, the Adriatic Sea is considered as one of the cleanest in the world, in some places the bottom is visible to a depth of 50 meters!

What about meal, as a rule, tourists dine in one of the cozy local cafes or buy food in the supermarket and eat in the room, where there is always a refrigerator and an electric kettle.

In the evenings it is very crowded in Budva: smartly dressed tourists chirp in numerous cafes or walk along the promenade, where the most luxurious yachts are moored. Someone buys souvenirs in the Old Town, someone goes to a night disco or a boat trip.

Speaking of boat trips. This is the most affordable and fascinating way to explore the coast of Montenegro. Every day, numerous pleasure yachts and boats depart from Budva to neighboring, no less interesting cities: Perast, Kotor and others.

Each of these cities is beautiful and colorful in its own way, because it has preserved ancient European architecture. A popular sea route from Budva is to the neighboring artificially created island of St. Nicholas, which is called Hawaii for its crystal clear turquoise beaches. You can get here in the morning, spend half a day or more here, and return to Budva by sea taxi in the evening.

Of course, in Montenegro there are many interesting and attractive places where you can go on an excursion with the whole family. This are the Boka Kotor Bay, known as one of the 10 most beautiful fjords in Europe; Porto Montenegro in Tivat – a luxury yacht marina, which is called the Montenegrin Monaco; canyons of the Tara and Moraca rivers, which are very popular among rafting enthusiasts; the visiting card of Montenegro is the high arched bridge of Dzhurdzhevich; Durmitor National Park with many lakes and caves; the famous island-hotel Stefi Stefan, the price of which per night is like an airplane wing; the famous shrine of Montenegro – Ostrog Monastery and others.

A month is not enough to explore all the beauties of this small mountainous country, so you can spend the whole vacation here and you will not be bored any day.
